Our lab studies membrane proteins and how they interact, function, and respond to their environment. We are especially interested in understanding membrane proteins in their native biological context, where their organization, interactions, and surrounding lipids are often essential to their function.
Much of our work combines membrane biochemistry with mass spectrometry and quantitative proteomics. We also develop new approaches, including the Peptidisc and Peptergent technologies, that allow us to study membrane proteins and their interactions without relying on conventional detergents.
Our current research ranges from individual membrane protein complexes to large-scale studies of membrane protein networks in cells and tissues. We are particularly interested in how these networks differ between tissues, how they are remodeled in disease, and how membrane proteins interact with lipids, metabolites, and small molecules.
